Engineering work

Engineering work is an essential part of maintaining and upgrading our rail network. Here you'll find all the planned engineering work scheduled to impact LNER services over the next 12 weeks.

Sometimes we may need to make additional short notice changes and recommend you still check your journey as close as possible to your date of travel.

If we do change things after you have bought a ticket, you can either use any reasonable alternative LNER service, or claim a full refund.

Significant upcoming works

Planned engineering work between Northallerton and Doncaster: Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October/Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November

Over two consecutive weekends, planned engineering work is taking place between Northallerton and Doncaster on the following dates:

• Saturday 24 October

• Sunday 25 October

• Saturday 31 October

• Sunday 1 November

On these dates, LNER train services to and from Scotland and the north east will start and terminate at Northallerton or Darlington. LNER train services to and from London King’s Cross which would normally continue to the north east and Scotland will start and terminate at Doncaster. Rail replacement coaches will be in operation to help you travel throughout this period.

East Coast Digital Programme upgrades affecting services to and from London King’s Cross on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November

Further upgrade work as part of the East Coast Digital Programme means there will be no direct LNER trains to or from London King’s Cross on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November.

On these dates, LNER trains will start and terminate at Peterborough, where rail replacement coaches will operate to and from Bedford for onward connections with Thameslink to London St Pancras. Journey times will be extended and routes to other London stations, especially trains from Sheffield and Chesterfield, will be busier than usual.

To provide additional capacity and a direct route to and from central London fully by rail while work is carried out, the following LNER services will also be running between Newcastle and Bedford (calling at Durham, Darlington, Northallerton, York and Doncaster) in both directions. These trains also connect with Thameslink services to and from London St Pancras.
