Aberdeen to Perth trains

No trip to Perth is complete without a visit to Scone Palace. One of Scotland's most important stately homes, it's where kings such as Robert The Bruce and Charles II were crowned. Once you've taken a look at the many antiques, paintings and rare artefacts in the palace you can spend hours wandering around the world class grounds. Make sure you go to Moot Hill where the coronations took place and look at a replica of the famous Stone of Scone, only recently returned to Scotland.

If you want even more history, then head for Huntingtower Castle. This is where Mary Queen of Scots and her husband Lord Darnley stayed during their honeymoon and has been the scene of some of the most dramatic incidents in Scotland's rich past. Spend time exploring the remarkable layout of the castle and find the secret hiding place where the treasures were kept.

Perth Museum and Art Gallery is well worth your time with its collection of more than half a million local, national and international objects. There's an ever changing programme of exhibitions and events, but the main reception area with its beautiful glass dome is enough to justify any visit by itself.

Experience what life was like in Scotland 2,500 years ago with a visit to the Crannog Centre. Situated on the banks of Loch Tay, the centre is a unique reconstruction of an ancient loch dwelling based on discoveries made by divers during underwater excavations. Everyone will find the distinctive roundhouse fun, exciting, inspirational and informative.

Head to George Street for a collection of some of the best independent shops in Scotland. The street itself is charming and the stores are full of items you can't find anywhere else. You can also enjoy one of the best coffees of your life at the Provender Brown delicatessen.
