Top things to do in Aviemore

Aviemore is an outdoors delight with skiing, hiking, mountain biking and camping on hand to excite adventurers and nature-lovers alike.

Book train tickets to Aviemore

Thanks to its wintery climate and long-lasting snows, Aviemore is home to one of Scotland’s best ski resorts. You can rent ski and snowboard gear in town and take the Cairngorm Mountain funicular railway to the top of the slopes. Skiers recommend the White Lady piste for clear Highland views, or Aladdin’s Couloir for some off-piste exhilaration.

In summer, hiking and camping are excellent ways to explore the natural beauty of the Cairngorms. Cycle or run through the trees on winding forest trails or join the climbers and hikers taking on the mountains. For something a little less strenuous, rent a canoe or a stand-up paddleboard and enjoy a day out on the calm waters of Loch Morlich.

After all that exertion, you could then book a half-day tour of a Speyside whisky distillery. Made using water from the River Spey, Speyside whiskies have a lighter and sweeter flavour profile than other Scotches, making them a great place to start if you’re looking to get into whisky.

Hidden Aviemore

For something a bit different, challenge yourself to the aerial assault course at TreeZone. Little monkeys will love clambering through the canopy on rope bridges and tyre swings before flying through the trees on a zipline.

Or you could treat the animal-lovers in the family to a trip to visit the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd. This friendly free-ranging herd love meeting new visitors and will feed straight from your open palm. Join a morning tour of their hillside home for an unforgettable day out for young and old alike.
