Get away from it all at Mount Grace Priory. This Carthusian monastery is the best preserved of its kind in Britain, perfect for a day of peaceful contemplation. You'll be sharing your visit with a collection of wildlife that has made the Priory its home. Amongst these you might spot the famous family of stoats who have become synonymous with the area. Pick up your habit then visit the monk cell, herb garden and reconstructed rooms.
Don't leave Northallerton without a trip on the Wensleydale Railway. This heritage line takes you to the Yorkshire Dales National Park via the centuries-old market towns of Bedale and Leyburn. Opt in for the afternoon tea service and you'll be travelling in style as you enjoy the tremendous scenery on your journey.

Hidden Northallerton
Just outside of town, you'll find Kiplin Hall. Built in the 1600s, it was once owned by George Calvert who founded the US state of Maryland. The building is full of art and treasures, and so well preserved you could imagine Calvert popping in at any moment for a glass of port.
