Simpler Fares
Giving you clearer options and modern flexibility.
What is Simpler Fares?
Simpler Fares is an industry-leading initiative to improve and simplify ticketing across rail. LNER is at the forefront of this change.
Passengers will benefit from clearer ticket options and flexibility that matches the modern way we travel.

What is a 70min Flex ticket?
The 70min Flex is our new Semi-Flexible ticket offering a new way to travel flexibly. Once you buy your ticket, if you decide you need some flexibility and don't want to travel as booked, you can start the journey up to 70 minutes earlier or later.
This new ticket is currently in a pilot phase which is available on most journeys between one of the pilot stations in the north and one of the pilot route stations around London. The 70min Flex may not always be shown alongside an Advance. We have removed the complicated Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak fares on these pilot routes to make flexibility simpler and easier to understand for our customers.
From Summer 2025, we've expanded the pilot bringing in more stations in the London area, as well as extending the validity of the new 70min Flex tickets to services of other operators that provide vital connecting services to and from these stations. This includes Northern, TransPennine Express, CrossCountry, ScotRail, Govia Thameslink and Transport for London.
