Hop Onboard: LNER Issues Top Travel Tips for Easter Holiday Adventures
12/03/2025

For those planning an eggs-tra special trip away during the Easter holidays, LNER is sharing its top travel tips and destination inspiration to make great memories.
With 54 destinations across the LNER route, there’s something for everyone this Easter, and taking the train is the perfect way to start your adventure.
If you are looking for inspiration, there are plenty of places to explore – including historic York, where you can get your Easter chocolate fix with the city’s annual chocolate festival. From market stalls filled with chocolate, to the festival’s taste trail, the five-day event is not to be missed.
LNER also directly connects customers with stunning coastal towns including Alnmouth and Berwick-upon-Tweed and offers easy connections to Tynemouth from Newcastle and Portobello in Edinburgh. Bring your buckets and spades and eat some of the best fish and chips around, all while enjoying the sunshine.
There’s also plenty of history and culture to find in Leeds and London including the Royal Armouries, luscious green spaces in Lincoln and Harrogate such as Valley Gardens, and the animal kingdom in Doncaster and Hull at Yorkshire Wildlife Park and The Deep.
Tens of thousands of journeys are expected on LNER services between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday, with this year’s most popular journeys currently showing as between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh, York, and Leeds.
David Flesher, Commercial Director at LNER, said: “The Easter holidays are a great time to head out and explore some of the brilliant places that LNER can take you to. There is lots to see and do, from stunning coastlines to historic castles and city-breaks, and many memories to be made across the East Coast Main Line.
“At LNER, we love welcoming families on board, whether they’re first-time travellers or seasoned rail users, and connecting them with fun-filled days out.”
Across the LNER route, two Family Lounges are available at London King’s Cross and York. These lounges are a great way for children to let off steam ahead of, or after, their journey and for parents and carers to relax.

Onboard services, LNER’s VIP (Very Important Puppet) has created an Easter-themed activity pack for smaller travellers. These fun packs can be ordered at the Café Bar or via the Let’s Eat At Your Seat function, free of charge!
To keep trips affordable, LNER offers Family Single tickets, providing a fixed fare between 17 different destinations. Family Singles are one ticket that covers travel for up to two adults and four children up to the age of 15, all for the same great price.
The top LNER tips for travel this Easter are:
Be seat sure:
Free seat reservations can be made, with a valid ticket, on the LNER website and app.

Have fun!
The most important thing to do is have a good time and create positive, lasting memories.
If you’re travelling for a few days, leave your car at an LNER station car park and enjoy a special long weekend parking rate of just £15, perfect for that mini break*.
Through LNER Perks, customers can also earn 2% credit to use on future journeys every time they travel with LNER, £5 credit just for joining, and gain access to family friendly competitions, partner discounts, and treats.
Away from the East Coast Main Line, engineering work is taking place across other parts of the rail network. LNER services are not affected by any work throughout the Easter period, but some trains may be busier than usual. Check your journey via LNER’s Travel Alerts page or on National Rail Enquiries.
